Hoping to carry momentum from an undefeated non-conference into Big Ten play, No. 22 Iowa travels to No. 7 Penn State for Saturday's 6:40 p.m. showdown inside Beaver Stadium. CBS will televise the game.

Iowa (3-0) is coming off a resounding 41-10 win over Western Michigan that eased some pressure off the Hawkeyes' offense. But Saturday's road affair will unfold with injury concerns at tight end and running back. Penn State (3-0), meanwhile, began Big Ten action last weekend with a strong 30-13 victory over Illinois.

An encouraging development through three weeks has been the growth of Iowa’s run blocking. Even against a salty defense in Iowa State, the Hawkeyes carved out crucial holes in decisive stretches. And certainly the 254-yard rushing output vs. Western Michigan was the best yet, marrying smart running by the Nos. 3-5 backs and physical blocking at the point of attack. And they’re doing it without a heavy dose of the outside zone, a long-held staple of the Kirk Ferentz regime. Iowa has leaned on its increased size up front to become more of a power-running football team.

Quarterback Cade McNamara will have to improve his performance to beat the Nittany Lions. McNamara was Pro Football Focus' lowest-graded player on the entire Iowa offense vs. Western Michigan. On his 24 drop-backs, Iowa only netted 70 yards. McNamara completed nine passes for 103 yards, was sacked four times for minus-41 yards and scrambled once for eight.
