Where Iowa, Iowa State, UNI football players are projected in 2022 NFL Draft's final rounds

Three rounds are officially in the books.

With one day left of the 2022 NFL Draft, plenty of Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa football players could hear their names called Saturday during the last four rounds.

So far, we've seen Northern Iowa's Trevor Penning (No. 19 to the New Orleans Saints), Iowa's Tyler Linderbaum (No. 25 to the Baltimore Ravens) and Iowa State's Breece Hall (No. 36 to the New York Jets) come off the board.

Penning made Northern Iowa history, becoming the first Panther player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, while Linderbaum's selection marked the sixth offensive lineman under Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz to be drafted in Round One. Hall was the first tailback taken in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Here's a look at what happened Friday night and what fans can expect on Saturday in rounds four, five, six, and seven.

New York Jets' selection of Breece Hall highlights Friday of the NFL Draft

After missing out on the first round, Hall didn't have to wait long to hear his name called Friday.

The Jets traded up to select the Cyclone tailback, and NFL Draft analysts raved about his fit within the offense and his projected meshing with New York tailback Michael Carter.

"(Hall and Carter), together, they can run it and they can catch it out of the backfield. That's the key here," ESPN's Louis Riddick said. "That's how this is going to help (Jets QB) Zach Wilson. Of course they're going to run the football with (Hall). He's big, strong, physical, (and has) great patience behind the line of scrimmage, great second-level burst and finishing strength."

What to expect on the 2022 NFL Draft's final day

Here's where things get interesting.

Iowa State tight end Charlie Kolar — who's scheduled to be just the second Cyclone tight end drafted since 2022 — was projected by many as a Day Two selection, but his name wasn't called during the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft. ESPN tabs Kolar as the third-best tight end and 19th-best overall prospect available heading into Saturday.

There's a good chance defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike hears his name called soon Saturday, too. Originally projected in the fifth (The Athletic) and sixth rounds (NFL.com and CBS Sports), Uwazurike is ESPN's best-available defensive end left on the board Friday night.

Iowa running back Tyler Goodson is projected to go in the fourth round on Saturday by both NFL.com and CBS Sports. Hawkeye defensive back Dane Belton, who led Iowa with five interceptions last year, is also projected by NFL.com and The Athletic as a fifth-round selection. The Hawkeyes have seen at least one defensive back be drafted in four of the past five NFL Drafts. ESPN listed Belton as the fourth-best remaining safety and 76th-best prospect overall heading into Saturday. Goodson is the 18th-best tailback remaining, per ESPN.

Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy, ESPN's 10th-best remaining quarterback, is viewed as a sixth-round selection (NFL.com and CBS Sports). Linebacker Mike Rose is predicted as high as the fifth round (The Athletic) and as low as the seventh round NFL.com and CBS Sports). The Athletic also projects linebacker Jake Hummel as a seventh-round choice.

Northern Iowa could see a second player selected in this draft, too. Wideout Isaiah Weston is tabbed by The Athletic as a seventh-round pick. The Panthers have only seen two players go in the same NFL Draft twice since it condensed to seven round: 2021 and 2008.

What channel is ESPN? What channel is the NFL Network?

ESPN is channel 206 for DirecTV users. It's channel 140 on DISH.

The NFL Network is channel 212 on DirecTV. On DISH, it's channel 154.

Trevor Penning, Tyler Linderbaum find NFL homes during first round

ESPN's Mel Kiper believed Penning has the talent to make an impact in the NFL, but shared his concerns over his ability to block without holding.

"The talent is there, technique needs work, but nobody's meaner," Kiper said. "He plays way beyond the whistle, guys. … the talent is there. He just needs coaching."

Kiper, though, didn't seem to have many concerns about the Raven's selection of Linderbaum, despite his fall in the first round due to concerns over his arm length.

"He's got all the skills in the world necessary to be a pro bowl caliber player," Kiper said. "Short arms? I can name a lot of centers who've been very effective — hall of fame as well — with short arms. … Linderbaum's going to anchor this line right away as a rookie."
