NCAA Re-Rank: Top 10 falls in place as West Virginia tumbles entering make-or-break week

The USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank has fallen into place with one week left in the regular season. After a long but somewhat predictable regular season, the re-rank is topped by three unbeaten teams and a slew of one-loss teams from the Power Five leagues.

Unlike last week’s rankings, there was one major change near the top: West Virginia dropped five spots to No. 12 after a heartbreaking loss at Oklahoma State.

Don’t look for the Top 25 to remain the same past the final weeks of the regular season, however. This coming week features several make-or-break rivalry matchups, none bigger than the meeting of No. 4 Michigan and No. 9 Ohio State.

West Virginia players react after a touchdown by Oklahoma State in the fourth quarter at Boone Pickens Stadium.

There’s also the Apple Cup between No. 8 Washington State and No. 14 Washington. A convincing win would do wonders for the Cougars’ reputation with the College Football Playoff selection committee. West Virginia will look to rebound against No. 7 Oklahoma.

Another two key games come from the Group of Five. On Friday, No. 6 Central Florida looks to continue its winning streak with a matchup against slumping South Florida. And in the Mountain West, No. 10 Utah State travels to No. 15 Boise State in one of the best games of the weekend.

New to the top 25: No. 20 Northwestern, No. 23 Troy, No. 24 Pittsburgh.

Out of the top 25:  No. 27 Buffalo, No. 29 Alabama-Birmingham, No. 35 Boston College.
