Bowl projections: More upsets change outlook for College Football Playoff, major bowls

Another weekend of upsets brought more changes to the college football landscape.

This past Saturday saw four top 10 teams knocked off, creating significant changes to the outlook for the College Football Playoff field and the New Year's Six bowls.

Michigan defensive back Josh Metellus returns an interception during the second half against Wisconsin.

Georgia's loss to LSU effectively ended any chance of two SEC teams in the final four unless the Bulldogs can recover and defeat an unbeaten Alabama in the conference title game. It's possible the Crimson Tide could get in under that scenario or with one loss to LSU, but they would need some help from other conferences.

Michigan supplanted Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl after pounding the Badgers for one of the biggest wins in the Jim Harbaugh era. The Wolverines still have some work to do with Michigan State and Penn State coming up on the schedule.

Also on the rise Texas, which assumes a spot in the Sugar Bowl. The Longhorns are in the midst of a six-game win streak and look well positioned in the Big 12 after West Virginia's loss at Iowa State.

LSU moves forward to the Peach following its defeat of Georgia. Meanwhile, Penn State likely is out of New Year's Six consideration after its loss to Michigan State.

A reminder: Some conferences may not fulfill their bowl allotment. Asterisks denote a replacement pick.
