Hawkeyes get commitment from three-star Texas quarterback

The Iowa Hawkeyes landed a quarterback for their 2020 recruiting class Friday when Deuce Hogan of Grapevine, Texas, announced his commitment on his Twitter feed.

"COMMITTED! All praise to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ...let’s rock Kinnick," Hogan tweeted at 6 p.m.

Hogan, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, is a pro-style quarterback ranked the 48th-best prospect in Texas by 247Sports. He completed 219 of 372 passes for 2,716 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a sophomore for Faith Christian High School.

Hogan had been offered scholarships by Baylor, Houston, Iowa State and Oklahoma State, among other schools.

Hogan is ranked as a three-star recruit by scouting services. He was recruited for the Hawkeyes by quarterbacks coach Ken O'Keefe. He is the first player to join Iowa's Class of 2020.

Two weeks ago, Iowa got a quarterback for its 2019 recruiting class when Alex Padilla of Colorado announced his commitment. Hogan's announcement should help solidify the Hawkeyes' quarterback situation after the Nate Stanley era ends.

Stanley, who heads into his junior season as a second-year starter, currently only has two scholarship backups and both are freshmen — Peyton Mansell (redshirt) and Spencer Petras (true). With Padilla and Hogan committing in a matter of weeks, the Hawkeyes' quarterback stable has potentially been re-stocked for years to come.
