Jake Karchinski, a three-star defensive end from De Pere, Wisconsin, announced his commitment to Iowa on Friday following an unofficial visit on Thursday. He announced the decision via Twitter.

"What made Iowa the right choice is the bond that I had with the coaching staff," Karchinski told the Register. "I’ve been up there four times now so I just grew close with them and fell in love with Iowa City."

247Sports gives Karchinski three stars and ranks him the No. 65 strong-side defensive end in 2019. Rivals does not have him rated.

Iowa offered Karchinski (6-foot-5, 245 pounds) on May 7. His recruitment had seen a big uptick this spring, hauling in all 14 of his offers after the conclusion of his junior season. Some other offers included Syracuse, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Stephen F. Austin, Western Michigan, North Dakota State, New Mexico and North Dakota.

"This felt like a great time to commit because I didn’t want to go anywhere else besides Iowa," Karchinski said. "I felt like it was the right fit."

He recorded 61 tackles, including 18 for a loss, during his all-conference junior campaign with West De Pere.

Karchinski, a highly athletic defensive end with a frame that can add plenty more bulk, is Iowa's first 2019 pledge from Wisconsin. He joins Kansas City receiver Desmond Hutson, Ohio linebacker Jestin Jacobs, Illinois safety Sebastian Castro, Illinois tight end Logan Lee, in-state linemen Ezra Miller, Tyler Endres and Noah Fenske, and in-state linebacker Jack Campbell as Iowa's 2019 class.
