Top in-state football recruits and prospects to watch at the Drake Relays

Every year, some of the best high school athletes in Iowa convene at the Drake Relays. And, not so coincidentally, many of those athletes competing in the Relays are also high-caliber prospects on the football field.

It's no different this year. Here's the robust group of football recruits or prospects that are competing at the Relays this week.

Gavin Williams, Southeast Polk, 2020

Williams, a four-star running back who's poised to become the state of Iowa's next elite skill position recruit, qualified for the 100-meter dash and the long jump. He's clocked the state's fifth-fastest 100 time (10.92 seconds). Iowa and Iowa State have offered.

Moss, an blue-shirt defensive back signee for Iowa, qualified for the 110-meter hurdles. He boasts the state's fastest time (13.91 seconds) and is the favorite to win. He will also run on Centennial's shuttle hurdle relay team.

Darien Porter, Bettendorf, 2019

Porter, a three-star receiver recruit for Iowa State, will run in the distance medley, 4x200-meter, 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays for Bettendorf. He leads the state in both the 200 and 400, but the Drake Relays doesn't run those races.

Cole Mabry, Iowa City West, 2019

Mabry, a three-star linebacker with offers from Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Army, qualified for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.32 seconds.

Brooks, a walk-on receiver recruit for Iowa, qualified for the high jump and long jump. He's tied for second in the state with a high jump of 6 feet, 8 inches, and he's tied for third in the state with a long jump of 22 feet, 11 inches.

Rupiper, a walk-on defensive back recruit for Iowa State, also qualified for the high jump and long jump. He boasts the state's top high jump at 6-10.

Carter Bell, Bettendorf, 2019

Bell, an athlete prospect with interest from Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State, qualified for the long jump at 22-1 1/2.

Tyler Endres, Norwalk, 2019

Endres, a four-star lineman recruit for Iowa, qualified for discus and shot put with throws of 159-7 and 53-7 1/2, respectively.

Coal Flansburg, Solon, 2019

Flansburg, a three-star linebacker recruit for Iowa State, qualified for discus with a throw of 158-7.

Logan Jones, Lewis Central, 2020

Jones, a three-star defensive lineman prospect with offers from Iowa, Iowa State and Minnesota, qualified for discus and shot put with throws of 175-2 and 55-7, respectively.

Mosai Newsom, Waverly-Shell Rock, 2019

Newsom, a three-star defensive end with offers from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Northwestern, qualified for discus with a throw of 169-1.

Josh Volk, Cedar Rapids Xavier, 2020

Volk, a three-star offensive lineman with an offer from Iowa State, qualified for shot put with a throw of 52-6.

Kyle Sorensen, Waukee, 2018

Sorensen, a walk-on offensive lineman recruit for Iowa, qualified for shot put with a throw of 53-5.

Roosevelt's Kendell Jackson led the football team with 85 tackles and five sacks last season, and he currently holds the top marks in the CIML Metro Conference for shot put and discus.

Jackson, a walk-on linebacker recruit for Iowa State, qualified for shot put with a throw of 53-2 1/2.

Linderbaum, a three-star lineman signee for Iowa, qualified for shot put with a throw of 55-11.

Hampton, a three-star offensive lineman recruit for Iowa, qualified for shot put with a throw of 54-8.
