6 names to know on Iowa's spring game recruiting visitor list

Is that ... is that sun in the forecast for Iowa City this Friday?

Nearly 60 degrees and only a 10 percent chance of rain?

Oh boy — spring might be "starting" just in time for the Hawkeyes.

They're hosting a handful of players at this Friday's annual open practice, which will kick off at 7 p.m. This is always a big day for Iowa football recruiting, and it's no different this year.

Here are some of the more notable Hawkeye prospects and targets who will be at Kinnick Stadium on Friday night.

Note: The original version of this story included Kansas City receiver Desmond Hutson as a seventh name to know. Since that version was published, though, Hutson told the Register he would not be able to make it to Iowa’s open practice.

Jirehl Brock

RB: 6 feet, 195 pounds

Quincy (Quincy, Illinois)

Brock is likely Iowa's top 2019 running back target, and he could be the team's top 2019 target overall. He's a powerful, bruising running back who can "make you miss in a phone booth," as his high school coach says. He told the Register he will be attending Iowa's open practice. The Hawkeyes are competing against Iowa State, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern and Indiana for Brock, who piled up 1,588 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns this season. Brock is a consensus top-200 prospect and would be a big-time get for Iowa.

Tyler Goodson

RB: 5-10, 190

North Gwinnett (Gwinnett, Georgia)

Goodson tweeted that he would be taking an official visit to Iowa this weekend, and he should actually be on campus right about now. He's visiting with his high school teammate, Iowa linebacker signee Jayden McDonald. (The Hawkeyes would love to establish a miniature pipeline at North Gwinnett, a school in the Atlanta metro area that routinely produces Division I talent.) Goodson holds other notable offers from West Virginia, Iowa State, Nebraska, Colorado, Indiana and Boston College. He's likely right up near the top of Iowa's running back recruiting board, along with Brock and Wichita freight train Breece Hall.

Cameron Baker

LB: 6-2, 210

Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson

Baker is an elite athlete out of Council Bluffs and Iowa would love to keep him in the state. Iowa is recruiting him as a linebacker, but he was also an All-Iowa Elite Team running back this season. Northern Iowa is currently Baker's only other offer. But he's recovering from surgery on a torn labrum he's had throughout high school. So, soon to be pain-free for the first time since eighth grade, Baker is poised for a big summer. He told the Register he'll be at Iowa's open practice and that he's in no huge rush to make a commitment. Baker holds interest from Nebraska, Purdue, North Dakota State, Kansas State, Wyoming and some from Texas, and he plans to stop at a few college camps this summer.

Etinosa Reuben

DE: 6-4, 265

Park Hill South (Kansas City, Missouri)

Reuben, one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Midwest, confirmed to the Register that he'll be attending Iowa's open practice; he told Rivals on Tuesday. He has racked up 13 offers this offseason, including from Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas and Arizona State. Keep an eye on Reuben for a potential Hawkeye offer this weekend. According to Rivals, Iowa currently has eight offers out to uncommitted defensive ends for the 2019 class.

Larry Tracy

CB: 5-11, 175

Decatur Central (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Tracy, a former Iowa pledge, re-opened his recruitment in late January to further gauge colleges' interest in him. He recently released his top five, which included Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati and Minnesota. A general rule in recruiting is if a kid decommits, he's probably not recommitting to the original school. Of course, there are exceptions. And Tracy could certainly be one. His relationships with Hawkeye coaches are still strong. His cousin, Tyrone Tracy, is still an Iowa signee. The Hawkeyes do very well in Indianapolis. And it's hard to deny their blossoming reputation among defensive back prospects, thanks to guys like Desmond King and Josh Jackson.

Sam Johnson III

QB: 6-4, 195

Walled Lake Western (Walled Lake, Michigan)

Iowa could very well offer some more quarterbacks when it hits the road for recruiting next Monday. But, right now, Johnson appears to be the guy for Iowa. Of its six offers out to quarterbacks, only Johnson and Houston product Grant Gunnell aren't verbally committed. Gunnell is attracting the biggest powers of the country, such as Alabama and LSU. But Iowa is in good position with Johnson, who it offered at its Feb. 17 junior day. He's a tall, strong, pro-style quarterback who recorded 2,115 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions this season, according to MaxPreps. He also holds offers from Michigan, Boston College, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Syracuse, among others, but he told Rivals he'll be at Iowa's open practice.
