The Register's Month in Pictures brings news events into focus

The Des Moines Register

From the state wrestling tournament to the ice and snow that blanketed central Iowa, the visual staff at the Des Moines Register brought the events of February into focus for Iowans across the state.

The fire started in the MichaelÊ& Dowd furniture and home appliance store with the first calls coming in at about 7:30 p.m.Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, in Vinton, Iowa.

We saw wrestlers like Cameron Beminio, son of slain Des Moines police officer Tony Beminio, show us that winning is about more than what happens on the mat. We followed Iowa legislator Megan Jones around the halls of the statehouse as she carried her newborn to and from meetings at the Capitol.

And we saw WHBF journalist Tahera Rahman make history in Iowa with her debut in the Quad Cities as the first full-time American reporter to wear a hijab.

Take a look back at some of the moments that made the news in February in Iowa and beyond in our Month in Pictures feature.
