When the offensive linemen went through the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday morning, one of the top prospects was noticeably absent.

Iowa junior center James Daniels discusses with offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz on the sideline against Boston College during the 2017 Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017.

Iowa offensive lineman James Daniels did not participate because of a strained hamstring he suffered two and a half weeks ago, the NFL Network reported. The Network said Daniels, a three-year Hawkeye starter, will do the other offensive linemen drills Friday.

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock has Daniels, a junior, listed as his third-best interior offensive lineman. Mayock raved about Daniels as he went through change of direction drills.

"He's a really good football player and one of the few Iowa players that have come out early in Kirk Ferentz's regime," Mayock said on the broadcast.
