Barstool Sports tried Casey's legendary breakfast pizza. The verdict: 'too bacony'

Iowans may not appreciate one blogger's review of the breakfast pizza at Casey's General Store.

Dave Portnoy, founder of the sports blog Barstool Sports, hosts a regular video series called "One Bite Pizza Reviews." He tried a slice of the Ankeny-based convenience store chain's popular bacon breakfast pizza in front of a Coralville Casey's on Saturday.

Casey's has 1,911 stores in 14 mostly Midwest states.

"This is what all the Iowa people say you have to do," Portnoy said in the video. "All of them."

The verdict?

Unlike many Iowans, Portnoy wasn't impressed with what he repeatedly referred to as "gas station pizza."

After one bite, he had only two words: "too bacony."

Portnoy clearly doesn't know who he's dealing with. Iowans love their bacon. Iowans throw festivals to celebrate bacon. Iowans hold a Bacon pageant each year, where they choose their Bacon Queen.

Turns out, Iowans really love their bacon...

So, naturally, Iowans were displeased with Portnoy's reasoning behind his 5.2-out-of-10-points rating for the breakfast bite.

The overwhelming response to his video? There's no such thing as too much bacon.

Of course, some commented that Portnoy would have been better off trying a pie at a place like A & A Pagliai's Pizza in Iowa City, which was named the best pizza in the state.

Others argued that he should have tried Casey's sausage breakfast pizza instead. Or the taco pizza. Or plain ol' cheese.

The response from Iowa fans gathered for the Hawkeyes' game against Penn State at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday was pretty resound, too:

But overall, most seemed to agree with commenter Kent Alan:
