The Iowa basketball program received a commitment from a 2018 shooting guard Saturday afternoon.

C.J. Fredrick announced his verbal pledge to the Hawkeyes in a Twitter post. He joins Muscatine's Joe Wieskamp in Iowa's 2018 recruiting haul.

Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery didn't waste much time jumping into the observational fray at this week's Peach Jam.

"I'm very excited to be following my dream of playing for (Iowa coach Fran McCaffery) and his staff at the University of Iowa," Fredrick wrote.

A 6-foot-4, 165-pound sharpshooter, Fredrick hails from Alexandria, Ky. A product of Covington Catholic, Fredrick is tabbed as a two-star recruit by 247Sports. He chose Iowa over Xavier, Butler and Indiana, among others.

According to 247Sports, Fredrick is considered the fourth-best player in Kentucky and the 75th-best shooting guard in the country. His uncle, Joe, played for Notre Dame in the late 1980s, at which time Iowa coach Fran McCaffery was an assistant.
