The University of Iowa made it official Monday: The Tiger Hawk logo is coming to midfield of Kinnick Stadium.

And, yes, it'll be on display for the Sept. 2 season opener against Wyoming.

The move was something a majority of fans yearned for. Head coach Kirk Ferentz told the Register last week while strongly indicating this move was coming, "My informal polls, when I ask people, it’s like 99 to 1 (pro-Tiger Hawk)."

According to the university, the logo "will be black with gold trim, and will face north to south between the 45-yard lines, so that television cameras will show the logo facing left to right."

The FieldTurf replacement is part of the first phase of the Kinnick Edge project, with the centerpiece of the stadium reconstruction being the renovation of the North end zone.

The last time Kinnick Stadium had a midfield logo was a black "I" from the 1972 to 1980 season. Fans can watch a webcam feed of the field installation at hawkeyesports.com/swarm17.
