Iowa women's rowing team looks strong in NCAA championships

The University of Iowa women will compete for national recognition Sunday after solid performances during the NCAA rowing championships on Saturday.

In the Hawkeyes' first race in West Windsor N.J., Iowa's I Varsity 8 crew led wire-to-wire to beat Notre Dame by 2.6 seconds. That squad will race in the C final for spots 13-18 Sunday.

II Varsity 8 crew started its race in the lead, but eventually fell behind Washington State and Northeastern for a third-place finish. That performances gets the II Varsity Crew into the C final Sunday.

The I Varsity 4 crossed the line in fifth to advance to the B final to contest spots 7-12 on Sunday.

The II Varsity 8 crew will begin the action for Iowa at 7:48 a.m. Sunday.
