BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A persistent rain Wednesday plagued the entire first day of the Big Ten Tournament, eventually postponing Iowa’s postseason opener against Maryland.

The game has been rescheduled for Thursday at 12.30 p.m. CDT, the second of a four-game slate. The loser will play a doubleheader, facing Purdue immediately following the teams' first game with an approximate 4 p.m. start time.

Iowa baseball's Big Ten Tournament opener against Maryland at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind., has been postponed to Thursday afternoon.

Wednesday’s first-round matchup was originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT. It was initially pushed back an hour before being called off. The Big Ten’s curfew for starting a game is 10 p.m. local time (much of Indiana resides in the Eastern Time Zone), and with rain continuing and the Nebraska-Purdue running well long, the decision to postpone the game was a relatively simple call.

Nebraska eventually picked up a 15-9 win over the Boilermakers, meaning Iowa will get the Cornhuskers should it upend Maryland. That game would occur on Friday at a time still to be determined.
