Iowa's Pemsl out 8 weeks after sports hernia surgery
Iowa sophomore forward Cordell Pemsl had sports hernia surgery Tuesday and will miss about eight weeks of summer basketball activities, the university announced Wednesday.
That operation means Pemsl will not play in the Prime Time League this summer. But it is anticipated he will be ready for the Hawkeyes' August trip to Europe.
“I spoke to Cordell after the surgery, and everything went great,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said in a university news release. “We’re happy that he will be back on the court later this summer.”
A 6-foot-8 graduate of Dubuque Wahlert, Pemsl started 14 of 34 games a year ago, averaging 8.9 points and five rebounds. He shot a single-season school record 61.7 percent (116-of-188) from the field his during freshman campaign.
Pemsl had two knee surgeries while playing at Wahlert.
