Despite his last name, could Hawkeye target Patrick McCaffery draw some attention from other schools soon?

The Iowa City West rising junior has enjoyed another successful offseason with the Iowa Barnstormers. And on Thursday, Rivals ranked him the 23rd-best prospect in the Class of 2019. He was previously ranked No. 60 by Rivals.

247Sports ranks him 50th and Scout.com ranks him 36th. All three recruiting services give McCaffery, a 6-foot-7, 180-pound forward, four stars.

So far Iowa is the only school to offer McCaffery. He said Arizona sent him a letter "about a year ago." Other than that, no schools have expressed interest, likely assuming he'll commit to play for his dad, Fran McCaffery, at Iowa.

But it'd be hard for a name program with proven recruiting clout to see a kid rocket up to the top 25 and not at least send out a feeler, right? One such school could be Notre Dame, where McCaffery's mom, Margaret, starred in her college days. Fran McCaffery also spent 11 years as an assistant at Notre Dame.

Patrick McCaffery started for West's Class 4A state champion team this year. He averaged 13.8 points on 60.6 percent shooting (33.9 from long range), as well as 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 blocks per game.
