Iowa finalized its 2019 non-conference football schedule Tuesday with an announcement of a home matchup against Middle Tennessee State.

The game will be played Sept. 28, 2019, in Week 5 of that season. The Blue Raiders will receive a $1.55 million guarantee from the Hawkeyes. Iowa will host Miami of Ohio in its opener and follow up with a home game against Big Ten Conference foe Rutgers before visiting Iowa State and a bye week before its Middle Tennessee State match.

Members of the University of Iowa marching band perform before kickoff at the Outback Bowl on Jan. 2. The university athletics department earned a small surplus from its bowl trip.

The Blue Raiders went 8-5 last season, losing 52-35 to Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. Coach Rick Stockstill has been at Middle Tennessee State for 11 seasons, posting a 72-65 record. The Blue Raiders have been bowl-eligible eight of the past 11 seasons. The school competes in Conference USA.

Iowa’s non-conference slate in 2017 includes Wyoming and North Texas at home and a road game at Iowa State. In 2018, the Hawkeyes host Northern Illinois, Iowa State and Northern Iowa to open the season.

Hawkeyes show surplus from bowl game

Iowa also announced Tuesday a surplus of $6,025 from its participation in the 2017 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla. The Hawkeyes lost the Jan. 2 game 30-3 to Florida.

The athletics department was provided a share of $2.05 million from the Big Ten Conference to cover expenses for the team and staff, the Hawkeye marching band and other university staff.

Expenses for the team and staff totaled $1.53 million, with the primary expenses including lodging and meals ($575,060), air transportation ($570,414) and ground transportation ($106,266). The marching band expenses of $449,692 included $241,319 for air transportation and $124,957 for lodging and meals. The other university staff expenses totaled $61,247.
