When they were hooping in college, Iowa fans hated Georges Niang and Iowa State fans hated Adam Woodbury.

Guess what? The rivals are now teammates.

Georges Niang and Adam Woodbury.

Niang, the former Iowa State star, on Tuesday was assigned by the Indiana Pacers to its NBA Development League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. It just so happens that Woodbury, the ex-Hawkeye big man, plays for Fort Wayne as well.

This is real life.

Niang played in 13 games this season for the Pacers, averaging almost six minutes per game and tallying almost one point and one rebound per game. He was drafted by Indiana in the second round (Pick No. 50) of the 2016 NBA Draft.

Woodbury, on the other hand, was selected 20th overall in the first round of the D-League's draft by the Maine Red Claws. Woodbury was later trader after the draft to Fort Wayne. He hasn't appeared in a game yet this season.

The Mad Ants play host to the Red Claws at 7 p.m. Thursday, where Niang is expected to be in uniform. Unfortunately, Fort Wayne won't play this season against the Iowa Energy.
